Pyramid Valley is a renowned biodynamic winery located in North Canterbury, New Zealand. Founded in 2000 by Mike and Claudia Weersing, the estate has since become a benchmark for New Zealand’s fine wine production, particularly known for its exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
In 2017, Pyramid Valley was acquired by Steve Smith MW and Brian Sheth, who have continued to build upon the winery’s legacy of producing terroir-driven wines. The estate is now managed by winemaker Huw Kinch, who brings a wealth of experience from both New Zealand and Burgundy.
Situated in the Waikari Valley, Pyramid Valley benefits from a unique terroir characterized by limestone-rich soils and a cool climate. The vineyard spans 2.2 hectares of densely planted vines, with an additional 8.3 hectares planted in 2018 to expand their productio.
Pyramid Valley is committed to biodynamic and organic farming practices, believing that these methods best express the vineyard’s distinctive terroir. Their winemaking philosophy centers on minimal intervention, allowing the grapes to speak for themselves through careful hand-harvesting and gentle vinification techniques.
The winery produces a range of wines, including their flagship single-vineyard Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, as well as the Appellation Series and Botanical Collection. These wines have garnered critical acclaim for their purity, complexity, and ability to reflect their unique origins.
Pyramid Valley’s dedication to quality and sustainability has positioned them as one of New Zealand’s most respected wineries. Their wines are sought after by collectors and wine enthusiasts worldwide, offering a true taste of North Canterbury’s exceptional terroir.
